hollywood casino in perryville will open at 8:00 this morning. abc2 news linda so is in the studio ready to gamble. linda? >> reporter: yes, get ready. 1,500 slot machines, lots of food and drinks, in a hollywood theme. the casino is opening a little earlier than expected. it was originally supposed to open this thursday. instead, that is when the grand opening will be, with today being their soft opening. the casino got its license over the weekend after a successful trial run saturday. more than a thousand people were invited to a close-door charity event. it paves the way for the casino to open since voters approved slots nearly two years ago. the casino at arundel mills is going back to the voters in november. operators at perryville say they are happy to be the first to open and boost the local economy. >> we have 350 employees, 80% of which are from harford and cecil counties. so, to be the first, i think it's just an exciting thing for everybody. >> reporter: again, the hollywood casino in perryville will officially open its doors in about three hours, 8:00 this morning. gra

those storms and you see saint leonard, hollywood writ is coming down. the storm is moving north of 35 miles an hour. it has some rotation with it. and this will be the problem when off tropical system and it is sort of a tropical system, not a pure tropical system. but on the eastern side of the track you can see that. between plum point and arequestsco, there is a sign of rotation there. we are watching the storm and it will lift to upper marlboro. dunkirk, chesapeake beach watch for short lived low top tornado. a weak one but even a weak tornado can be damaging and that is a tornado warning in affect until 4:30 this morning. some locations we are watching at 08, sunshine acres 4:08. this is moving north at 25 miles an hour. and toward saint leonard maybe some hints and a little rotation down there. this is what you will find. almost like when you row a boat and you can see the itties in the water. you get these with heavy band of rain and you can see they are moving to the north. saint leonard getting some of that. an sigh -- see what else is going on down there. hollywood, lexingto

this week blames them for our failing school system. but rich, you say that hollywood finally got something right, correct? >> i am thrilled hollywood got this right. in my adult lifetime i watched american students fall out of the top five, the top ten, and now out of the top 20 on a global basis. teachers union protect incompetent teachers and make it impossible for parents to choose the school they want to send the kids to. if this is backed by hollywood and rich technology people like bill gates is a thrilling moment, makes you confident things will turn. >> are teachers union helping or hurting the american public education system? >> probably not helping, but they're also not the whole of the problem. rich has a math problem here. how many bad teachers are there out there really? i can't recall having one i'd call really bad. this guy made "an inconvenient truth" before making this. it will spin both sides now. don't know whether to trust him for one or the another. it's not just about teachers. it's about parents and student transparency and testing for things that matter.
